Last Call Bios

Joe Canuso (Director and Founder and Artistic Director of Theatre Exile) has directed many past hits for the Philly Fringe Festival, including The Philly Fan, Cryptome, Amputation Nation, Live at the Apollo Diner, The Frankenharry Plays, Death & Taxes and Escurial.  He also starred with John Lumia in the 1998 Fringe hit Parking.  He recently performed in John Patrick Shanley’s the dreamer examines his pillow at the 2005 Prague Fringe Festival.

Jorge Cousineau(Visual Effects) has created sets, lights, sounds and video for over 60 dance and theater productions in and around Philadelphia. His designs have appeared at the Arden Theatre Company, the Wilma Theater, Mum Puppettheatre, Pig Iron Theatre, 1812 Productions and the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival. He is the recent recipient of an Independence Foundation Fellowship to support his project, The Absence and was awarded the 2004 F.Otto Haas Award for emerging theater artist.  Next up- designing the set and sound for Theatre Exile’s Rounding Third!

Kevin Francis (Sound Designer) most recently worked on the Theatre Exile produced film Cellar as a composer and sound mixer. For his work on Theatre Exile’s production of Ionesco's Rhinoceros, he received a Barrymore nomination. Other productions include All My Sons and Death of a Salesman at the Arden, Permanent Collection for Interact and the inaugural production of Black Nativity at Freedom Theatre. Kevin's sound and music work can also be heard on CDs by Jata, Paul Downie and David Disbrow.  

Big Daddy Graham (Writer and Performer)   has been entertaining audiences as a standup comic, radio and TV personality, writer and recording artist for over 20 years.  He has won Philadelphia Magazine's Best Of… seven times, has worked with the likes of Ray Charles, BB King, Smokey Robinson and has recorded numerous novelty songs that have sold over 100,000 copies.  The award winning Big Daddy’s Big List and the Big Daddy Snack Segment have run nightly on WIP, CN8 and FOX 29 for over a decade.  His book Last Call… Remembering my Dad was a critical and commercial success.  He is returning home to Society Hill Playhouse where he performed as the Lion in George Bernard Shaw's Androcles and the Lion back in 1980 something.  He currently lives in NJ with his wife Debbie, 2 daughters Ava and Keely and dog Morgan.

Bruce Graham (Dramaturg) Published Plays: Burkie, Early One Evening At The Rainbow Bar & Grille, Moon Over The Brewery, Minor Demons, Belmont Avenue Social Club, The Champagne Charlie Stakes, Desperate Affection and Coyote On A Fence (1998 Rosenthal Prize winner - nominated for two DRAMA DESK Awards).  According to Goldman, recently premiered at the Philadelphia Theatre Company and Coyote on a Fence (starring Ben Cross) opened in London’s West End in April ’04. Feature Film Credits: Dunston Checks In, Anastasia, Steal This Movie. Currently he is working on the movie version of his play, Moon Over The Brewery, for ABC Family Channel.  He was recently named “Best Playwright” by Philadelphia Magazine’s 2005 Best Of Philly awards, and his play The Philly Fan (which Theatre Exile will remount this winter) has been nominated for a 2005 “Best New Play” Barrymore Award.

Desiree Salera(Stage Manager) is pleased to be working on her 10th production with Theatre Exile. In Philadelphia she has stage managed No Exit for Outcast Productions, Jesse and the Bandit Queen for Sanctuary Productions and Lost Soles for Lucidity Suitcase. Desiree has also worked as an actress with the Edinburgh Studio Opera Company in Scotland on two productions, Lakme and Fanny Robin. Thanks to her family and Eric.

Doug Smullens (Technical Director) has worked extensively as a technician and designer in the Philadelphia region.  His work has been seen with Big House, Amaryllis Theatre Company, The Philadelphia Fringe and Lantern Theatre Company. This is his tenth production with Theatre Exile.
