Lucas Hnath (Red Speedo) and James Ijames receive recognition from American Theatre Magazine

In late September Lucas Hnath, playwright of Theatre Exiles 2014 production of Red Speedo, received the Kesslring Prize for his play The Christians. James Ijames, a local playwright was also recognized with an honorable mention for his play The Most Spectacularly Lamentable Trial of Miz Martha Washington. In 2013 Theatre Exile presented a reading of A Thousand Kinds of Silence (later to be renamed The Most Spectacularly Lamentable Trial of Miz Martha Washington,) as part of our 2012-13 Studio X-hibition series.

"The Kesselring Prize, named in honor of the late playwright Joseph Kesselring, honors not-yet nationally recognized playwrights. Sponsoring theatres submit nominations of playwrights for consideration. John Guare, Anne Cattaneo, and Lynn Nottage served as the jury this year. This is the first year the prize has been distributed after a six-year absence."

Congratulations to Lucas and James on this well deserved recognition
