Remembering Tommy McDonald

Mon, 09/24/2018

The entire Theatre Exile family is saddened to announce that Tommy McDonald the hero of Tommy And Me by Ray Didinger has passed away at the age of 84.

Tommy was always my favorite Eagles player growing up but I never dreamed that he would be a big part of my life many years later. When Ray brought me the story I knew that we had to produce it and it has been a revelation not just for our company but for everyone in Philadelphia who’s seen our production.

Meeting Tommy has been an honor. If you spent any time with him you couldn’t help being caught up in his exuberant personality. Look at any picture of Tommy when he was young or when he was older and he is always smiling. And his personality jumps out at you from the photo.

Not only have we been able to bring so much joy to people over the last three years of the show’s run, but we have had the honor of being accepted by the McDonald family as one of them. Chris, Sherrie, Tish and Tommy Jr. have embraced our production and stood behind if from day one. As his son Chris has said, we were able to give their father the greatest gift of all and that is of letting him be Tommy McDonald again. I have never received a higher accolade in theater.
