Inspiring New Book on New Eagles Coach...
“The Tao of Chip Kelly”
With appearances at Helium Comedy Club & Theatre Exile
PORTLAND, OR - (June 17, 2013) – Philadelphia sports fans are buzzing about the dramatic changes that new coach Chip Kelly is bringing to the NFL’s Eagles: the open 4-way competition for starting quarterback, the blaring music and lightning pace at practices, even replacing previous coach Andy Reid’s “Fast Food Fridays” with personalized fruit smoothies.
Now author Mark Saltveit, who covers Kelly and the Eagles for FishDuck.com (a highly-regarded Oregon Ducks strategy website), has written the first-ever book about this enigmatic innovator. “The Tao of Chip Kelly” focuses on the unusual philosophy and innovative management strategies that Kelly uses to shape his dominating teams, ideas that can help any business or office.
Mark Saltveit will have a book signing at the Theatre Exile (Studio X - 1340 S. 13th Streets at Reed; 215-218-4022) at 7:00pm on Saturday, June 22nd. The book signing will be prior to the showing of The Philly Fan. There will be a Q&A after the play. More information is available at theatreexile.org.
Out west in Oregon, fans have been enjoying the show for years, as Kelly led the unheralded University of Oregon Ducks to a 46-7 record in his four years as head coach. The Ducks appeared in a BCS Bowl game every year and finished in the top five teams his last 3 years, thanks to a gambling defense that led the nation in takeaways and an explosive offense that averaged 48 points a game.
“Chip Kelly has so many wildly innovative ideas that it’s hard to see what the common thread is, at first. But the longer you study him, the more his philosophy seems consistent, brilliant, and even inevitable,” Saltveit said. “Everyone is heading in Chip’s direction. He just got there first. He has a big lead, and he keeps pushing forward.”
Kelly, a wise-cracking New Englander who suffers no fools, boils his revolutionary ideas down into a number of punchy mottoes, from “Win the Day!®” and “the faceless opponent” to “Every game is the Super Bowl” and “Feed the Tuna Mayonnaise.” This book’s 33 short chapters explore these gritty mantras and look at Chip Kelly as a person: his humor, connections to spirituality, and why Oregon fans call him “Big Balls Chip.”
